Strategy

Local Crow’s Strategy

Provide community building activities and engagement that help promote the well-being of the entire community across party lines and lifestyles, promoting value-based decisions putting policies over politics.  Communicate using thought provoking content that offers non-threatening ideas that will yield community building results.  Activities and communication should be inclusive of all people who respect basic civic rights of all human beings while welcoming ideas that may be different but focus on healthy expansion of ideas for the growth of everyone in the community regardless of their participation level.

Value Statement

Our commitment is focused on local engagement highlighting local and national policies that impact the local community in positive and possibly negative ways.  We are committed to being inclusive and non-confrontational in private and public forums by listening first and engaging in a constructive way while providing fact based information.  We are committed to creating a safe place to listen, speak, and act on community issues and concerns while staying party neutral, through the sponsorship of volunteer and social engagements, and community events/activities. Value is mutually served by consistently giving back to the community volunteer efforts, while engaging in healthy policy based discussions.

Plan

Develop a series of community engagement activities that focus on engagement and improvement of the community.  Define targeted audiences for the community engagement for each planned event or communication.  Engage the community in fun ways that tear down artificial barriers.  Maintain non-partisan, open minded, engagement that focuses on learning and caring for others.  Ensure activities are not restricted to any class, gender, or race and open to all who are willing to learn and share.  Training on conflict resolution may need to be incorporated into the plan for leaders of planned events.  Involvement in City Council meetings and school board meetings or local non-profit groups to help identify community-based issues that build our relationship with our neighbors. Develop a focus on rural Iowa to ensure the true underserved communities are given a voice and a platform to amplify their unique issues.

Goals

  • Inform and engage the public around democracy’s (small d) meaning and values to draw a more accurate alignment between the public’s similarities rather than focusing on differences
  • Create transparent agendas for community engagement where all who are steeped in good intentions are welcome
  •  Root out qualified candidates for public office that best represent the community’s needs
  • Listen to and engage in discussions with people from all backgrounds to understand values and priorities of the larger community
  • Creatively engage with the marginalized communities and encourage their involvement
  • Create a more inclusive method for inviting and informing community members to create a diverse perspective that will allow the coalition to grow
  • Create a strong, single message about the coalition’s mission and vision through communication and marketing
  • Develop activities that engage and represent the values of the Local Crow
  • Build coalitions with local and national organizations to promote local engagement and activism for our local community
  • Build resource rich information on political processes and governance for easy access
  • Community engagement meetings/education/games/social events/volunteer opportunities/activities (hiking clubs, biking clubs, bowling clubs, sports clubs, hunting/fishing events)
  • Organize through community college or high school’s student government classes and possibly engage public figures currently holding a local office
  • Working at soup kitchens, habitat for humanity, or other community support.  Diaper drives or other things that would get community engagement to help those in need
  • Activities within the elderly community/nursing homes

All goals should align back to one theme, build unity through the amplification of what we hear and the stories we tell in an effort to give our local communities the best life they deserve.

This is the basic foundation of what Local Crow Indivisible stands for and the purpose we have to make the communities a safe space for all who dwell there.
